Dog Breed Nicknames

Ever wonder how different dog breeds got their nicknames? It seems we love to shorten all sorts of names and breed names are no different. Some are easy to figure out. For example, Alaskan malamute... okay, let's remove the word Alaskan... and just have malamute... still too long? Okay, let's take off the amute and go with mal. How about Italian greyhound? Take off Italian and greyhound... no wait, that isn't right. Combine Italian and greyhound, but do so by removing most of the letters in both... So, let's keep the I.G. and we will call it Iggy. Shiba inu? That one is simple enough. Remove the inu and keep the shiba. Have any other breed nicknames you'd like to share? I know there are lots out there and I cold go on, but I fear that would bore my one or two avid readers to tears.
